Spring Buttons

Today the sun was out. Now, understand that I am not getting overly excited because I've been let down before. (Yes, I have emotional issues with the weather...!) But If you're feeling the way I am (and if you're not in Hawaii, you probably are) - I want it to stay! I want it to look and feel like SPRING!!! So I made these cute little buttons just for kicks. If you like 'em, you may use them! I'm going to create some other fun buttons to decal your blog... any requests? I'm going to have fun with this!!!

Friend Makin' Monday

Make some friends over at All That is Good!

Today's task: 10 things that just really get you fuzzed up (that means makes you mad)

*disclaimer. I don't like being angry, it brings out the worst in me. I believe I am in control of myself and I choose to be angry in these situations. But lets be real, these things tick-me-off.

1. Being ignored, particularly by my DH in any way shape or form. Or my 2 year old.

2. People being mean to other people. There are no excuses for being unkind. (Yes, I even get mad at myself over this. Despite popular belief... I'm not perfect! I know. Shocker.)

3. Parents who emotionally neglect their children.

4. Video games. Usually because I'm being ignored (see #1). Unless of course, I'm the one playing.

5. No internet connection. Actually, this should probably be #1.

6. Having to get up at night when I'm ridiculously tired. (That's why my kids usually sleep with me. We're all happier that way! )

7. Waiting in the car with screaming kids. (Usually for DH).

8. When someone refuses  to clean up after himself. Or expects someone else to.

9. Zero Accountability, You know, the ones that attract drama - but it's never their fault. *Deep Breath....*

10. Being Lied to. (Okay, this one is #1.)

There you have it!  What gets you fuzzed up? haha... thats a great term.

LDS Temples

I cannot for the life of me, pick one site to feature.

So I'm not gonna.

Instead, I'm going to share my thoughts on a talk from the 179th Annual General Conference.

There were so many wonderful, encouraging things said... but this is a talk that I loved... listen to it HERE.

Gary E. Stevenson's talk I'm entitling, "You're never lost when you can see the Temple."

"Only the home can compare to the Temple in sacredness."

Then, he takes us on a virtual tour of home and asks us to look at it with spiritual eyes.

  • When you enter - What do you see? How to you feel?
  • Is it a place of Love, Peace and a refuge from the world?
  • Is it clean and orderly?
  • Do you see uplifting images? Such as pictures of the Temple and the Savior?
  • Is your bedroom a place for Prayer?
  • Is your gathering area/kitchen a place to enjoy food and family time? It is a place for uplifting conversation?
  • Are scriptures found where you can study, pray and learn together?
  • Can you find personal Gospel study space?
  • Does the music and entertainment offend the spirit?
  • Are conversations uplifting and without contention?

Bountiful Utah Temple

I think this is such a great way to establish a home. Mine is far from where I want it to be... but now I have a set standard of what my home should be like!

He goes on to tell us that we are given standards to keep us worthy. And that we should set standards for our homes, to keep them sacred.

"There is a righteous unity between the Temple and the home."

"Understanding the eternal nature of the temple, will draw you to your family. Understanding the eternal nature of the family, will draw you to the temple."

I have resolved to teach my sons about temples now. My 2 year old asks to see the temple all the time, ever since we went through the Draper Temple open-house. He is at the age that he wants to learn! I want him to want to be sealed to his future sweetheart and family for more than just this life! I hope he continues to love and learn about temples and the blessings they can bring to a family!

Some goals I have set are:

  • Put a picture of a temple in the boys' rooms.
  • Frame a picture of the Bountiful Temple (where DH and I were married) for our living room.
  • Have a family home evening about the Temple.
  • Visit the temple grounds with my family (and if the day is nice, also take some family pictures there).

*Learn more about the Purpose of Temples and the Plan of Happiness.

Dear Taco Bell

Dear Taco Bell,

We've been pretty tight, you and I.  I have been one of your most loyal customers and have defended your integrity time and time again. Your Cheesy Gordita Crunch is a world of yumminess and I craved you when I was pregnant.

Even though my Husband doesn't always agree with you, and sometimes you make him sick... he understands our depth and deals with it to make me happy (yes, he is pretty much the best). Instead of buying my flowers as a kind gesture, we would bring me a #6 Combo Meal - One Beef Supreme, one Chicken Baja. We had a good thing going on.

But last night, you crossed the line. My husband can handle you when you upset his stomach... but my Monkey! Not my Monkey! After eating some cheesy fiesta potatoes and your new Nacho product... he was throwing up all night. In fact, he is still unable to keep anything down. Watching my baby in pain breaks my heart, You, Taco Bell, have broken my heart. We can no longer be friends. I'm sorry. I may visit you occasionally, but I can no longer allow our relationship to inflict pain on those I love. No more family nights at Taco Bell because I will not risk you hurting my babies.

Maybe it wasn't entirely your fault. The Taco Bell I fell in love with on Kauai is clearly not the same Taco Bell here on "the mainland". I have had more bad experiences with you here than I ever imagined possible. And I know I'm not the only one. I hear stories of your broken relationships all over. It makes me sad to see you stoop to this level. But that is your choice. I can only control what I do - and, well... this is where we stand.

It's over. Don't call me or text me anymore.

Help Rename my Blog!!!

I am revamping my blog... again.  I'm actually going to rename the whole thing (keeping the URL)... "Sweet Nothings" is great and all... but I just think there is something more me out there... I've tried and tested over 20 titles, but none were the one. You know? Here are some ideas that I liked but I need to reword it so it's original and fun...

"Come What May and Love it", "Bring on the Rain", "The Adventures of Haole Girl", "Enjoy it While it Lasts", "To Earn Butterfly Wings",

Something along the lines that: life gets tough but we just hang in there/enjoy it as best we can/ride out the hard times no matter what phase of womanhood we're in - and it will all be worth it. My blog will still be a hibiscus theme... so it could be an island theme...

You know. Something like that.

I am requesting submissions. I know! How about....

If I pick your submission you will win a little something!

Don't know what that something is... yet. But I'll think of a good one!

Let the ideas flow!

Fab 15... Movies

Over at MomDot, today's Fab 15 by Victoria were movies. And I just had to do my own fab 15 because I only agreed with maybe one of her movies... so here goes... (these are not particularly in order... just all in my top 15)

1. EverAfter - The best version of Cinderella to date. The one movie I can watch over and over and over (voluntarily).

2. Willow - Classic.

3. Chronicles of Riddick - Hello, Vin Diesel. Hard. As. Nails.

4. Lord of the Rings, Return of the King - My favorite of the trilogy.

5. Star Wars, The Attack of the Clones (that's Espisode II)

6. Serendipity - We're Kate fans over here!

7. Peter Pan (The newest version that is not animated) - I love the scene where Peter shows Wendy the faeries! Tink is a doll, and Peter Pan is a q-t!

8. Shrek 2 - cracks me up.

9. Mr and Mrs Smith - I'm not necessarily a  Brangelina  fan, but this movie rocks.

10. Pirates of the Carribbean 1 & 3 - My favorite scene is in 3 when Will is standing on the island with Davie Jones and Beckett while the other three walk towards them... you know what I'm talking about!

11. Disney's The Little Mermaid - My favorite Disney Classic

12. Romeo & Juliet - (yes, the one with Leonoardo DiCaprio, of course!)

 13. The Count of Monte Cristo - this is one movie that is way better than the book!

14. Stardust - What a fun story!! Great acting too.

15. The Bourne Trilogy - Identity, Supremacy and Ultimatum.

A Few Crafts

Really, the reason I am totally bragging sharing these things I've created is because this is all so new and exciting for me, and seriously, if I can do it, you can do it!

I mostly get stuff from the DI (Deseret Industries,  it's like Salvation Army) or recycle stuff around the house. I am not spending more than $2 on a craft. My mother-in-law is so kindly supporting my crafty whims and supplying me with most of what I need.

So... here's what I made yesterday, and some other things I've created...

So this little candy tin I decorated is great because my Monkey gets a treat to reinforce his good behaviors  (eating all of his food, using the potty, being patient with his baby brother... you know stuff like that.) So this makes it even more fun. Oh yah, except that I tried to open it this morning And. I. Couldn't. It twists, so I know it didn't dry shut, but I can't pop the top off. I suspect it is one of two things... either, a) I'm a weakling or b) the paper and modge podge perfectly fill in the space that would otherwise allow the top to... ya know.. come off!

IMG_1790

Another podge modged & painted tin.  I just loved this scrap paper... but it doesn't have a purpose yet!

IMG_1793

This is an older recipe box that I found at the DI. I don't know if I'm going to use it as a recipe box still, because my recipes are in a book... so, I left that space blank until I give it an assignment... then I will label it.

IMG_1785IMG_1786

These are simply decorated Pringle cans!   And what fortunate Pringle cans they are to now be my table's center piece. I don't have anything in the smaller one yet... pens/pencils, maybe? Also, notice the little tray thingy they're on... I got that for 50 cents and painted it black. Not too shabby, huh?

and here are some things in their "pre" form... that will be made into fun new things!

to be continued...
