Balance vs. Harmony

I find myself claiming that I want balance in my life. But in 25 years I have not been able to accomplish that. I've recently realized that what I really want in my life is harmomy. I may never have all the aspects of my life balanced (meaning they are all equal), but if they are all in harmony and do not cause discontent in my life, that is what I want.

There are four main aspects in our lives that we generally try to "balance": Social, Physical, Educational (Mental), and Spiritual.

More specifically in my life, I want harmony between these different aspects of my life:

Breaking those down even more specifically:
Family = Healthy relationships with Husband, children, bro-in-laws
Church = Responsibilities, Spirituality
Friends/Family = building, strengthening healthy relationships with by visiting/writing/calling
Work/Income = Cam's work, Photography, MaryKay
Home/House = daily straightening, deep cleaning, meals, environment

What does your list look like? I'd bet it looks pretty similar.

Now that I have things written out, I will have to break them down even more. And find out which things are not in harmony and how I will change them so they can be.

Good luck. I find myself wobbling on the balance beam every day.

Sometimes I fall off.

Sometimes I stay on, but just barely.

Yes, good luck. It is hard to get that good harmony. But half of the battle is realizing you want to do it and being motivated to do so.

Baby steps and small goals. We all want this I think. Just be careful and not 'set the bar' too high. My list is a lot like yours. It's not written down, it's in my head. I like it that way. Easier to lose track of it. ;)

I know the feeling. It is so easy to get overwhelmed by our various roles as women. We had an awesome lesson in Relief Society a couple months ago. It taught about how you can't do it all, all of the time. One lady mentioned that she has a list on her refrigerator that is of all of the things she is NOT going to do right now. At first I didn't understand, but the more I thought about it, the more I think it is genius. Her list consisted of mostly things she would like to do someday, but just not right now bc she just doesn't have time (she was young like us and has a couple babies). She mentioned quilting and canning and all sorts of things. I think something like that can actually help take away some of the pressure, stress, and guilt of wanting to do it all.

The only time I have real balance is when the scales wave at each other as they pass each other going up or down! Harmony is much more attainable and as someone who has run a WorkLife program for corporate America for twenty years I can tell you it is a better goal to have. In fact I almost named my program Harmony years ago. The only thing I would add as a line item is Health! Go for it!
