Swine Flu vs. Seasonal Flu

Okay, all you bloggers out there...

What are your thoughts on this Swine Flu?

Here are mine...

I definitely think we should stay updated with it's "progress" just incase it becomes an epidemic.

But did you know that the Seasonal Flu in itself kills about 100 Americans a day. Last week alone, there were 102 reported influenza deaths. (see official weekly reports HERE.)

...why aren't we making such a big deal about THAT?!?!

The Media is a little bit dramatic...

Don't stop living your lives.

I agree with you. It always seems that the media wants us to go into a panic. I just Don't understand.

I read somewhere that influenza deaths aren't in the media all the time because people aren't just dying of the flu. It is reported that they have the flu when they died which is why the number is so high. There is almost always something else going on. Where as with swine flu healthy people are dying.

But I do agree. We should be careful, but not panic. Some of the confirmed cases in the US are where I live so my family would need to be a little more careful than someone living in a state that hasn't been affected at all.

I couldn't agree more about the news. It seems that doing good reporting is prefaced by whether or not it carries enough drama.
